Laboratory animals play a crucial role in advancing human life science research and the development of biomedicine. The laboratory animal facility environment is intricately linked to animal welfare, quality, occupational safety for practitioners, and reliability of experimental outcomes. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the developmental history and current implementation situation of relevant standards for the laboratory animal facility environment in China, this paper systematically reviews the current 40 standards, including national, industrial, local and group standards related to the laboratory animal facility environment, and analyses the current situation of the development of the relevant standard system. Additionally, a concise overview of representative national standards (such as GB 14925, GB 50447 and GB/T 43051, et al), industrial standards (RB/T 010 and RB/T 019), and notable local and group standards is provided. The requirements for different types of laboratory animal facility environment are summarized, and the prospects for the future development direction of China’s laboratory animal facility standard system are put forward.
